Getting Ready for Fall and Halloween!!

I'm already counting the days until I can put up my autumn decor and say good-bye to sizzling hot summer days! We have had a bit of a break in the scorching temps these last few days in North Texas but it's still plenty warm out there!  I can't wait until there's a chill in the air and a crispness in the breeze!
I've already started working on some of my fall and Halloween designs!  We are planning a Fairy Tea Party for mid-September with a reveal of all of the new fall tutus, tops, and dresses shortly thereafter.  I can't wait to have a ton of excited little girls running around the yard in my creations! Here's a bit of a sneak peek with the purple and white boutique style tutu, with ribbon trim and a satin sash.  What do you think? In my opinion, it's perfect for Halloween or an autumn party.  Classically gorgeous, full of movement and flair.  It couldn't have turned out better (in my opinion!)

As Requested, Circus Ringmaster Tutu!

I got a message from a wonderful lady in North Carolina over the weekend wanting to know if I could make a ringmaster tutu for her 6 year old for Halloween.  I just love it when customers ask me if I can do something because I always say yes--even if I'm not sure--which means I have to figure it out.  She was very specific about what she wanted, which is always very helpful.  After some discussion, a lot of thought, and some major plans, I put together the Circus Ringmaster Tutu!

It's obviously shorter in the front and longer in the back.  She asked for two layers in the front and multiple layers in the back but I actually added more layers to the front and a lot in the back.  If she doesn't like it this way it can be changed but I wanted it to be as spectacular as possible. I also added yards and yards of satin ribbon to give it some contrast.  I wanted to try it on a 6 year old to make sure it fit just right--luckily I have one of those, too.  You can tell from the pictures she was not as excited about this as I was.  She refused to change out of her pajamas and wouldn't smile so we got lots of headless shots.  I think it works for the purpose of showing fit, though it's certainly not the ideal picture for an Etsy listing, which you can find here. It will have to do for now!

I was really surprised how few ringmaster tutus there are posted on Etsy.  I am hoping this will fill a void for more than one customer.
Can I also just say that I love that this mama is already planning ahead for Halloween? Now, that's my kind of mommy--or at least the kind I would like to be someday!

Stunning New Flower Girl Dress

My first attempt at a flower girl dress is complete. I actually finished it a couple of weeks ago but I just got pictures of the gorgeous flower girl trying it on for size. I think it turned out pretty spectacular, if I do say so myself. It is extremely poofy, but that is the way the bride wanted it.  If another bride wanted it to be less full, that would certainly be doable.

I wove several layers of ivory tulle through the crotchet elastic tube top. I tied them all at the bottom and then added several more layers, including shimmer tulle.  Next, I added an entire spool of ivory ribbon at the top, weaving it through the front and creating straps that weave through the bottom in the back and tie.

I also added a layer of ivory daisy ribbon at the top in the front to add even more detail.

Since I completed this dress, I already have an order for two more, which is incredible. Someone even told me, "It's amazing. It's the greatest thing of all time."  She may have been exaggerating, but that is always nice to hear.

I'm Making My Boss a Tutu!

Yesterday afternoon a colleague came into my office and asked if I could help her out on a project she is working on.  (I'm a Reading Specialist at an elementary school when I'm not making tutus and other girly things.) I said, "Sure! What do you need?"  She explained that she is working on a project and she needs me to make a tutu. I don't want to give away any surprised to others in our school district who may be reading this but I was super excited to make the tutu you see below!

I have to admit, this is probably the strangest tutu request I've had yet, though I have had some unusual ones.  Who would you like to see in a tutu?

Autism Awareness Tutu

April is Autism Awareness month.  This is something that is very near and dear to my heart.  When my oldest daughter, Imma, was 2 1/2, we were told that there was a very good chance she had an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  Imma hardly spoke, had difficulty relating to other people, particularly children, and had some sensory issues.  We went through years of therapy, a preschool program for children with disabilities, and lots of research, as well as tons of prayers, and finally, this year, it was determined that she most likely has a language processing disorder paired with some sort of sensory integration disorder--but not ASD. Though we are happy and relieved to know that Imma's differences are not because of an Autism Spectrum Disorder, this disability has become a part of our lives.  We have made many friends who do have children with ASD and we have spent many years assuming our child had ASD, investing a lot of time looking into therapies, treatments, diets, etc. that may help children with ASD. Therefore, autism is probably always going to be a part of our family, whether our daughter actually has it or not.  In order to celebrate the wonderful individuals with ASD, each one as special and unique as any other person, many with extraordinary gifts, I've created this Autism Awareness Tutu.  This is my way of showing I support ASD research, funding, and treatments.  It is my most sincere hope that no one ever has to go down the same path our family has gone down ever again and that ASD will someday be nothing but a memory.
